A hash check only catches identical files. Real libraries are full of copies that aren't identical: a photo re-saved by a chat app, a burst of near-identical frames, a RAW and its out-of-camera JPEG. Every local photo tool claims privacy. What matters is the architecture: BoxPick has no cloud backend for image data at all. The AI models are bundled with the app and run on your CPU or GPU.

Why recurring at all? The duplicate detector and OCR aren't static — they get better as the models are retrained on harder cases (odd RAW formats, low-contrast receipts, non-Latin text). A subscription funds that work and ships it to you automatically. Lifetime buyers get the current models plus a year of that, which is enough to cover the near-term improvements already planned.
When the trial ends, only new searches and indexing new folders are gated. Everything you've already indexed — every duplicate group, every document, every face and place — stays fully usable. Nothing is re-locked. Regional pricing (₹ for India) is applied automatically at checkout.
The first time you run the installer, Windows SmartScreen will say "Windows protected your PC" and hide the install button. This is expected. The installer isn't signed with an extended-validation certificate yet, so Microsoft treats it as "unrecognized" until it has been downloaded by enough people. It is not a malware detection.

It never deletes anything by itself. It groups suspected duplicates, marks one as the keeper, and shows exactly why it was picked — resolution, file size, whether it has a capture date and GPS. You approve each removal, per group or per photo.
Removed files go to the Windows Recycle Bin, not a permanent delete. If it ever picks wrong, restoring is one click, and you can override the keeper before confirming.

It's a dedicated on-device OCR engine (not a generic model), tuned for printed and screen text — receipts, screenshots, slides and whiteboards do well. Very small text, heavy skew or unusual scripts are weaker; those are the cases the model updates target. It reads Latin scripts today, with more languages planned.
It works completely offline after the one-time model download. The only network call is a licensing check — a hashed device ID, plus your email once you subscribe. No photo, thumbnail or filename is ever sent, and there's no analytics.
